Josh Alley: Yachtsman/Craftsman

Josh has had a varied and accomplished background, with a passionate interest and good experience in the arts, the ocean and adventure sports. He is an accomplished yachtsman, carpenter and engineer. Added to this he has some experience in running small businesses.

Josh’s youth was divided between Southern Florida and Tennessee, interspersed with various excursions to sea and adventures in Alaska. In Florida he learned to sail and surf, while in Tennessee he was put through an intensive type apprenticeship on his Great grandfather’s farm. It was from the latter that he found his skills in Carpentry and Engineering. After this he applied and was accepted to Mid Tennessee State University, where he studied Philosophy. With this behind him at the age of 21 he was inspired enough to purchase a trading licence on a small premises in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. From this he put together a small coffee house / arts and music venue. Running regular musical events and exhibited artwork for local artists & craftsmen. Unfortunately although the concept was sound and the staff/customers where happy, the local demand was not quite enough to pay the bills, so after several years of hard work he was forced to close.

Since this Josh has been working as carpenter/ship-write in between travelling and working in various capacities aboard boats. His last serous boating job was as 1st officer on a large river/dinning boat. Josh’s ambitions for the future are closely tied with the sea, and it was very apparent when Matthew met Josh and Steph (who have since been married) several years ago on the Island of Tortola that they were both perfectly suited for this project.
