PAINTED
OCEAN - ON-BOARD
Throughout
history travelling and the sea have been sources of great inspiration
for many artists, writers and craftsman. These days art schools actively
encourage students to travel. Often offering organized expeditions abroad
as an integral part of courses. In fact the value placed upon the intellectual
and creative stimulation derived from travel experiences, of all kinds,
has never been more realized than it is today. Nowhere is this more
apparent than in the arts.
HOW IT WORKS
The programmes we offer are adapted to fit around the itinerary of the
vessel, often taking on a flavour inspired by the locality of the boat.
They will cover a broad spectrum primarily within the arts and crafts
including sculpture, painting, printmaking and photography, alongside
this we also run courses such as language tuition, cooking and watersports
such as diving and surfing. We have established links with local art
centres so that the participants will often have the opportunity to
work alongside local artists and gain insight into local art practise.
The courses will be run by members of our bank of visiting lecturers
or by our resident artists/instructors. See The
artists and crew section. The structure and timetable of the courses
and activities will be of an informal nature and if a participant wishes
they will be quite welcome to work on their own project, or simply lounge
around on deck or get stuck into the sailing of the vessel.
When the vessel is in port we will arrange or have pre-arranged excursions
to local areas of interest. This will include trips to galleries &
museums, interesting architecture, plus areas of natural beauty and
of general interest such as musical events, and local markets or festivals.
